Spring "Green" Festival is Coming May 4th

Spring is a time for new beginnings. In Colfax, CA it’s a time of celebration.

The Spring Green Festival – coming to Colfax on Saturday, May 4th – will be filled with fun and entertainment and good food. It includes a Luau Party, complete with a roasted pig and hula dancers. A Sierra Vista Community Center event, The Spring Green Festival, celebrates Earth Day offering a variety of “green” activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Located in the community center, at 55 School St., Colfax, CA, festival organizers hold the event to educate and promote a living-green mindset by conserving resources, shopping locally and enjoying outdoor activities. During the festival, attendees will find displays by vendors offering green products and services, including alternative energy, builders, designers and energy-efficient products.

Visitors can find health-and-wellness information, as well as ideas for turning trash into treasure. Master Gardener DeBora Miller will hold composting demonstrations and more throughout the day. The Sierra Vista Art Center 2nd Spring Green Art Show features a recycled theme and wearable art. Art for indoors, and out, created by art center artists, will be available. A “recycled” Fashion Show will also be held.

Then unwind and enjoy a healthy Hawaiian meal! Serving for the roast-pig barbecue starts in the Sierra Vista multi-purpose room at noon and lasts until the last bit of succulent pig, and side dishes, have been served. Tickets are $10 per person. Adult drinks will also be available. The Hawaiian dancing group, Wahine U'I from Alameda, will provide free entertainment for all.

Welcome to the Athena Art Gallery in Colfax, CA

There is a lot to do in Colfax and now there is the Athena Art Gallery to browse through when you take a stroll down Main St. in Colfax. The gallery is inside the Colfax Greek Bistro at 30 N. Main St.

The gallery opened in July 2012 and has on display the work of Auburn artist C’Anne Elliott. Her work is beautiful and nature inspired. C’Anne’s work is in Photo art, Acrylics & Mixed Media. She also has displays of one- of-a- kind custom jewelry in copper, bronze & silver with natural and semi-precious stones. The gallery is expanding to include 3 more artists to form a co-op. In the expansion, the historic brick walls in front of the café besides the middle room of the building will become part of the Athena Art Gallery.

Since it opened in August 2009, the Café has always had art exhibits on the brick walls of the Café. Elan Vitkoff, owner, says: “The combination of food, music and art was always the theme for the café. This is why I became a member of Placer Arts in 2010 to support ‘art in Colfax’ “.

The Colfax Greek Bistro was a venue for the Colfax Art Walk. C’Anne exhibited her work at the Bistro during the July Colfax Art Walk. She loved the venue so much and ‘birthed’ the vision of creating a full gallery in the building.  Elan backed up the idea and using the model of the High Hand Gallery in Loomis, the color scheme and ‘cooperative’ vision became a reality. Adding ART to the community of Colfax has been well received and so was the first Colfax Art Walk.

Athena Art Gallery will continue to be a venue for the Colfax Art Walk and will have artists show their work throughout the year. If you are an artist or know an artist who would like to be part of the growth and evolution of the gallery, Athena Art Gallery is waiting for you.
